American Labor Unions
Dear Editor,

I take umbrage to Mr. Israel's characterization as ironic, my analysis of labor unions and the state of American workers. It is self-evident that any human association or organization will act in ways that are selfdestructive; as labor unions in this city and nation have and will in the future. It is also evident that there has been a campaign by corporate leaders and some politicians, especially Republican politicians, to weaken labor unions. As a result the real wages of American workers have not been keeping pace with increases in prices. Recent news reports speak of foreclosures, bankruptcies, and unpaid utility bills, etc.

The members elect union leaders. Corporate leaders are rewarded for activities that often are not for the common good. Can democracy survive without Americans having some voice in their economic life?
