Pay Teachers To Quit

Thank you, Rabbi Allan Blaine, for your wonderful column in the January 4th Wave, "Paying For Performance."

The first aim of education should indeed be to inculcate the love of learning in our young people. I was appalled when I first heard about incentive pay for students and teachers alike; teachers I know share this opinion and are either amused or insulted. "I always give my best!," says one.

What can these "educators" be thinking? Maybe we should pay them to quit.
