Honoring A Local Fallen Marine
Xavier High School Establishes A Scholarship Fund
By Kizzy Thompson

Lance Corporal Michael Glover
Friends of Mike Glover and Xavier High School will host its first annual Michael Glover Xavier High School Scholarship Fund on January 19. The event will be held in the gymnasium of Xavier High School, located at 30 West 16 Street, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Michael Glover, of Rockaway, was an A plus student at Xavier High School in Manhattan, and graduated from SUNY Albany with a 4.0 grade point average. He made the decision to pursue a career in law, and was a student at Pace University Law School. Deeply affected by the death, on 9/11,of his close friend Charlie Heeran and numerous members of the FDNY from the Rockaways, Glover, the nephew of a fire chief who led rescue operations at the World Trade Center's north tower, joined the United States Marine Corps.

Glover's call to public service extended beyond his readiness to go to war. He received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for conducting numerous rescue missions in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Lance Corporal Michael Glover was killed in action while on patrol in Fallujah, Iraq on August 16, 2006. He was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, in Albany, New York. To keep his memory alive, the Michael Glover Xavier High School Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student at Xavier High School.

In recognition of Glover's honorable life and his love of Xavier High School, donations for the Lance Corporal Mike Glover '97 Scholarship Fund are being accepted. Donations are tax deductible and Xavier High School will acknowledge all donors for tax purposes.

All are invited to join the Friends of Mike Glover in celebrating Glover's 30th birthday. The event includes open bar, cocktail hour, DJ, live music from Spit-Roast Muppet, a video tribute, raffles and giveaways.
