The 119 Street Dip
In the early morning of January 1, a group of 60 to 70 people took a dip to start off the New Year. The annual 119 Street Dip, which has been a tradition since January 2001, began with a march towards the beach. Tom Pulkoski, the organizer of the event, began the countdown to "dip" ten seconds before noon and participants made a mad dash into the freezing water of Rockaway Beach.
Pictured here are the participants of the 119 Street Dip, before the dip.
