Hundreds Brave Chilly Ocean In Beach 146 Street New Year's Day Plunge
More than 250 hardy Rockaway souls braved a chilly Atlantic Ocean at noon on New Year's Day in the annual Rockaway Polar Bear plunge. While there are three New Year's Day dives, the one on Beach 146 Street seems to be the largest, drawing people from all over the west end. This year, the weather was a balmy 43 degrees at the time of the plunge, and the earlier rain had moved away, setting up perfect conditions for the dive.
