SFDS Christmas Tourney Concludes Saturday

The St. Francis de Sales Christmas Tournament will conclude this Saturday with championship games beginning at 11:00 a.m. Once again the tournament has been a great success with the hot action inside providing a sharp contrast to the cold outside.

The Subnovice matchup is already set. SFDS Blue will open the day by trying to defeat St. Adalbert a second time, this time with the title on the line. SFDS Gold gained valuable experience with tough games against St. Adalbert and Good Shepherd.

The Pee Wee Championship will follow at 12:15 p.m. SFDS Blue has beaten St. Helen and SFDS Gold has beaten St. Stans after a loss to Our Lady of Hope. They are the three remaining teams at this point. The Novice Championship at 1:30 completes the first half of the day. St. Francis has beaten Our Lady of Grace, Epiphany, and St. Mary Winfield, and now awaits either St. Stans, Our Lady of Hope, or a rematch with St. Mary.

After the Novice game, the Special Awards ceremony follows with Sportsmanship Awards that honor many who have been a large part of St. Francis CYO. Games then resume with the Rookie Championship at 3:30. St. Francis has beaten St. Pancras, Blessed Sacrament, and St. Rose, and waits to see if they will face Blessed Trinity, St. Rose, or a rerun of last year's thrilling championship game against Blessed Sacrament, in the final. The Bantams follow at 4:45. St. Francis began with a win over Blessed Sacrament before losing an exciting contest to St. Adalbert.

To take the title, they will need to beat Blessed Sacrament again and then turn the tables on St. Adalbert on Saturday.

The Intermediate Championship finishes things up at 6:00. After an impressive win over St. Mary Winfiled, St. Francis went toe to toe with St. Thomas Apostle, but faded down the stretch, and now must knock out Nativity to get a rematch with St. Thomas on Saturday.

Friday night's games begin at 5:45 and Saturday's championships at 11:00.

The cheerleaders will make an encore appearance and the raffle winners will be drawn on Saturday.

The kitchen will satisfy your hunger and your thirst as you take in all the action.

See you at the SFDS gym. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
