Another Blow For The Rockaways

Dear Editor,

Now there's a surprise! Rockaway loses its bid to maintain a toll-free connection to the mainland. We're already forced into paying Manhattan gas prices and shopping in the priciest Waldbaum's in the tri-state area. Why would I expect less from the M.T.A. on this matter?

Rockaway residents have been shunned for decades. For example, during a past election, the city's homeless and mentally challenged were displaced along the boardwalk.

Our elected officials, once again, fail to convey what I feel should not be a privilege, but a right. This is equivalent to a discriminatory Rockaway tax.

Maybe it's time to elect people who will fight harder to have our voices and our demands heard, and stop reelecting those who use the beach community as a stepping stone for some personal agenda, or have grown complacent in their present seats.

If our elected officials don't feel this is an important enough issue, perhaps we should all allot our $1.03 toward someone who will.
