In Defense Of A Friend

Dear Editor,

I was shocked to see the slanderous letter by Michael Schwartzman in last week's edition. I have known Mike Honan for at least 25 years. I too have names for him - names like veteran, patriot and friend. Never in all the years I've known him have I ever heard him utter anything bigoted or racist. Mike, like any true American, is incensed at the idea of freeing a traitor. He is also rightly indignant that Israel never returned any of the documents that Pollard gave them. I disagree with Mike in that returning them now would be pointless - the information contained in them has no doubt been disseminated already. Mike named a few elected officials who happen to be Jewish. His point is that they might have more influence with the Israeli government than a non-Jewish official. For that he is labeled a bigot? Michael Schwartzman owes Mike Honan, The Wave and the community an apology.

PETER GALVIN, M.D.
