HEAP Promises Help With Heating

Low-income families won't be left in the cold when paying heating bills this winter.

The Home Energy Assistance Program (H.E.A.P.), offered to Rockaway residents by Councilman James Sanders Jr., is a fund that helps such families pay their gas, oil and electricity bills.

"As someone who understands the difficulty in trying to keep your home warm and trying to save a dollar, I am happy to offer such a program to the people of the 31st District," Sanders said in a press release. "I urge all to take advantage of this opportunity."

Assistance varies depending on household income and the type of heating. H.E.A.P. also offers emergency benefits in the event of a power shut off or any other urgent heat situation.

For information on qualifying and the application process, please call H.E.A.P. representative Michael Nollah at Sanders' Far Rockaway District Office at (718) 471-7014.
