Volunteers Search For Missing Orthodox Man
Volunteer searchers from Brooklyn, Rockaway and as far away as Lakewood, New Jersey, spread out over the area around Beach 9 Street on Thursday, looking for Allen Rothman, 56, an Orthodox Jewish man who has not returned to his home on Seagirt Avenue and Beach 8 Street since December 9. The search is being led by the missing persons team of the Boro Park, Brooklyn, Shomrim Patrol, a volunteer group made up of trained individuals who assist in many emergency situations.
Also participating in the Thursday search is the Hatzolah Ambulance Corps from Lawrence, Long Island and a group of Orthodox volunteers from Lakewood, New Jersey.
The New York City Police Department and the city's Office of Management and Budget are also assisting.
Rothman is described as being in fragile health and suffering from schizophrenia and diabetes. He needs to take numerous medications.
He is 130 pounds, 5 feet 6 inches tall and has dark eyes and black/gray hair.
Although he had not contacted any of his friends or relatives since his disappearance, Rothman has connections to the Orthodox communities in Rockaway, Brooklyn, Monsey, New York and Lakewood, New Jersey.
