SFDS Christmas Tournament Finals Begin This Weekend

It was a quiet weekend for some SFDS CYO basketball teams who have already reached the holiday break in their schedules. For others, it was a full plate with tournament games and in addition to their league slate.

The Bantam Girls fell behind quickly at Our Lady of Hope, 6-0. St. Francis rallied but could never overcome a consistent Hope squad as they lost 19-13.

The Boys Pee Wee Gold was impressive in a win over St. Pancras as Dominic Savino dropped in 9 points. Kyle Hoffman, James McFadden, Teddy Stathis, and James Carlton completed the scoring.

The Novice Boys trailed St. Margaret, 13-8 before going on a 15-1 blitz to close out the game for a 23-14 win.

The Intermediates traveled to St. Patrick in Bay Ridge on Saturday and coughed up the lead in the final minute, despite the fine play of SFDS' Jimmy Wolfer. Charlie Marquardt was outstanding the following day as St. Francis held on to beat St. Helen, 40- 38.

The 2008 St. Francis Christmas Tournament is off to a fine start and continues every night through Saturday, December 27 with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Highlights coming up include the Subnovice and Bantam Winner's Bracket finals to be played this Saturday. The Novice, Rookie, and Intermediate Winner's Bracket Finals and Subnovice Elimination Bracket Finals will be played on Monday, December 22.

The Pee Wee Winner's Bracket Finals and Bantam Elimination Bracket Finals are to be played on Tuesday, December 23. The Pee Wee, Novice, Rookie, and Intermediate Elimination Bracket Finals will take place on Friday, December 26.

The SFDS Novice, Bantam, Rookie, and Intermediate teams have all advanced to the Winner's Bracket finals.

The SFDS Tournament concludes with Championship Saturday on December 27, beginning with the Subnovice Final at 11:00 a.m.

The Pee Wee final is at 12:15 p.m., the Novice game is at 1:30 p.m., the Bantam final is at 3:30 p.m., the Rookie game is at 4:45, and the Intermediate will take place at 6:00 p.m.

There will be a special awards presentation immediately after the Novice final at approximately 2:45 p.m.

Come enjoy the action at the St. Francis Christmas Tournament.
