Students Spruce Up Local Storefronts
Eighteen students from Scholars' Academy, PS 114, St. Rose of Lima and Beach Channel High School participated in the Rockaway Rotary Window Painting project last Saturday, December 13. Participants decorated a total of 12 windows, which were judged by Geoff Rawling, President of the Rockaway Artists Alliance.
Cash prizes and trophies were awarded to students for first, second and third place. First place prize went to Emily Dana, Athena McDonald and Megan Locognata, all of Scholars' Academy, for their painting of Mirkin Vision Care; second place prize went to Kiera Harris, Fallon Mullon and Christina Banks, also from Scholars' Academy, for their painting of Tudor Nails; and third place prize went to Johna Risso of St. Rose of Lima, for her painting of SEP Computers.
Capitol One Bank served as the starting and ending point of the project while Dunkin Donuts provided participants with free hot chocolate. Students decorated the windows of Ciro's Pizza, Kings Pharmacy, SEP Computers, Clothesliner, Tudor Nails, Dunkin Donuts, Mirkin Vision Care, A&J Jewelry, Rogoff's, Fast Break, and West End Realty.
