Copper Wiring, Going... Going... Gone!

During the last summer season, Parks Department officials wondered why the lights on the boardwalk were not going on as evening fell, even though they were wired to photosensitive switches It turned out that people were buying a key on the internet that gave them access to the wiring boxes attached to the light poles on the boardwalk. Those boxes contain valuable copper wiring. The Parks Department repaired the boxes and made them even more difficult to open. This being Rockaway, however, somebody quickly found a way to strip the wire, as this photo, taken on Thursday, shows.
