The Christmas tree was bare every morning, until the Bishop Kearney High School community piled presents high and showed that they understood what Christmas really meant. The student body adopted local charities and filled wishes by purchasing a specific item listed on a list distributed through their religion classes.

During five Advent prayer services, students piled more than 1,000 gifts of toys, clothing, gloves, hats and scarves around trees set up in the Catholic Center and the auditorium. The project was coordinated by Patricia Gregorek, a teacher in the Catholic Studies department, in memory of Sister Helen Krafinski, a faculty member who died in 1998.

The groups that benefited from this year's appeal included St. John's the Baptist Parish Outreach Program, Our Children, the St. Francis Breadline and St. John's Bread for Life Program.
