Change Gun Violence
As we look forward to celebrating the upcoming holiday season and the "change" that's coming, we must not forget the evil that still lurks in our communities. We must remember that drugs, gangs, rapes and gun violence do not take any time off. Daily, these evil acts are committed and have caused many years of pain and suffering. We must come together in out communities and say, "no more." It's reported that firearms are being sold at an all-time high. Am I missing something? Firearms in the hands of our youth, and fools is not change, it only means more violence! Yes, it is time for a change - stop the violence!
President-elect Obama said, "Change has come to America." My friends, change can only come to America when Americans change. We must stand united to take back our communities across America from these cruel and brutal acts. Another great president (John F. Kennedy) also said many years ago, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country."
It does not take a rocket scientist to know that every resident in this country is either part of the solution, or part of the problem. Which one are you? Each and every one of us plays a role in the community in which we reside. Some of us take a stand, and some just do not want to get involved. My friends, it is past time to take off the blinders and make our communities places where we feel safe.
Our youth are killing us and each
other. Loved ones are turning against each other! What'shappening to us? Stop ignoring the problems and start enjoying the quality of life that we deserve.
In many instances, we know that our family members or friends of family members are the ones that wreak havoc in our communities. I speak from experience! Years ago I took a stand, and now I ask you to do the same. We must take off the blinders and recognize the signs of troubled youth (and not so young) who merely exist day to day. Prayer does change things, but God also gave us a thing called common sense - that many refuse to use. Let's not wait for the next violent act to occur, and ask, "What if?" My friends, it will be too late. Yes, we do need a change - now!
