Making Waves

Commentary By Jane Deacy Republican State Committee Member, 23rd AD

JANE DEACY JANE DEACY The presidential election has been decided and the Obama sweep did not miss the political races of the 23rd Assembly District. Congratulations to Audrey Pheffer on retaining her Assembly seat and thank you to our candidate, Gerald Sullivan, for running an aggressive campaign taking 32.5 percent and sending a message to all politicians that the Republicans, Conservatives and Independents have a voice to be heard here in the 23rd AD, and we will be getting a whole lot louder.

In the Senate race, congratulations to State Senator-elect Joe Addabbo who also benefited from an Obama sweep and will be vacating his City Council seat, creating the need for a Special Election to take place in February to fill the remainder of his term. We are very fortunate that we have a very capable candidate for NY City Council in my co-leader, Eric Ulrich, who announced his candidacy for NY City Council on Tuesday. It would appear that with term limits out the window, this vacancy has caught the attention of many. I would like to publicly endorse my co-leader, Eric Ulrich, for City Council and want you to be assured that he will be a most capable voice to articulate the issues and concerns of all of us in City Hall.

He has also been unanimously endorsed by the three Republican Clubs within the 23rd AD. No one knowing Ulrich doubts that he is destined for a long political career and I am so very proud to assist him in his efforts to get to City Council and be our voice. I am asking you all to help me in that effort. Please attend the Rockaway Republican Club's Christmas/Chanukah Party on Thursday, December 11 at 8 P.M. to be held at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club located at Beach Channel Drive and Beach 126 Street. The club has graciously earmarked the event to benefit their candidate for City Council, Eric Ulrich, and it would be a great time to meet him first hand if you do not already know Ulrich. This is going to be a fast and furious campaign and I am imploring you

all to make a commitment to get involved early and stay involved. Please join your local club, where all grass-root efforts start, and go to ericulrich.com to obtain more information about Ulrich, make a donation, and if possible, sign up to volunteer in helping him get to City Council where he will be our formidable voice.

On another note, in the severe economic downslide facing us all, the people residing in the Rockaways need to band together to stand up against the MTA's unfair proposal to reinstate a toll on the Cross Bay Bridge, which is Queens to Queens. There are two bridges connecting Brooklyn to Queens that seem to be getting a pass, the Kosciuszko Bridge and the Greenpoint Bridge among other bi-borough bridges connecting to Manhattan. Once again the city is targeting the "outer limits," expecting us to shrug and bear it. The Rockaway Republicans take issue with this proposal and will be mounting a vigorous protest against this unfair proposal. Mr. Mike Mattes has asked to address the club as well regarding the continual unfair treatment of the "outer boroughs" as orphans of the city. This should be an interesting meeting, so please try to attend.

As previously stated, December 11 will be a Christmas/Chanukah party and Iwould like to wish you all a very happy, healthy and safe holiday season, both from me and my co-leader, Eric Ulrich.
