Historical Views of the Rockaways

What Is Wrong With This Picture Folks!
From The Rockaway Museum Commentary by Emil Lucev, Curator Dedicated To The Memory Of Leon S. Locke

Today's historical view copies from an official New York City Parks Department 1937 booklet on improvements to be at Rockaway Beach. The printer really goofed on this one! So let's see how much readers of historical views have learned about old Rockaway!

Big Egg Marsh and Broad Channel - top; Holland section of peninsula, bottom; original Crossbay Bridge connecting, center; Beach Channel, Jamaica Bay, between; Beach 92 Street, left; Beach 96 Street, right; Beach 95 Street at Bridge Plaza, circle; Long Island Rail Road on ground behind 100 Precinct and firehouse, bottom left; and Monte Carlo night club on Bayfront at foot of Beach 92 Street. The booklet said that things would be turned around in Rockaway Beach. The photo is printed backwards. For the correct view hold the photo up to a mirror.
