St. Camillus/St. Virgilius Basketball Teams Win Again

In their second game of the season, the St Camillus/St Virgilius 7th Grade basketball team came out strong against OLG and led the game from start to finish.

Keon Dela Cruz's scored 29 points in the victory. Shea Slocombe dominated the boards and added 12 points. Brendan Scott, Terrence Keane, and Michael Castelano's scoring and defense in the 4th Quarter put the game away with S.C.V. winning 47 to 32.

In week three, the S.C.V. team played two games and won both games. On Saturday, S.C.V. played St. Margaret's. St. Camillus/ St Virgilius had a slow start and were losing at half-time 12- 10. In the second half, S.C.V. scored 19 points and played excellent defense lead by Cullen Lonnborg.

In the second half, S.C.V. limited St Margaret's to 5 points to bring home the victory 29 to 17. On Sunday, S.C.V. played Resurrection Ascension in their first away game.

S.C.V. had a very balanced offense with Keon Dela Cruz leading the scoring with 12 points and Paris Moses adding 5 points. Shea Slocombe and Michael Castelano scored 4 points while Joe Kennedy, Michael LaPorte, Brendan Scott, and Conor Ward added 2 points each.

St Camillus/St. Virgilius won the game, 33 to 19, to improve their record to 3 wins and 1 loss.

The S.C.V. 8th Grade Intermediate Boys Basketball team faced off against St Stans at home Saturday, November 15. A balanced scoring attack and tough defense resulted in a 40-32 victory. Brandon Gonzalez led the scoring with 15 points. Tristan Nevirs had 11 points followed by Anthony Laporta with 8 points, Bryan Brennan with 4 points and Reilly Sullivan with 2 points.

The game remained close throughout and S.C.V. led by one at the end of the 3rd quarter. The squad was able to pull away in the 4th quarter by playing smart team basketball. Tristan Nevirs scored 7 of his 11 pts in the last period and Bryan Brennan chipped in with some clutch foul shooting.

On the weekend of November 22 and 23, the S.C.V. eighth grade suffered two tough losses. The squad was defeated by St Teresa Avila 62-29. Dennis Nee and Anthony Laporta led the scoring with 10 points each. Bryan Brennan played a great game and chipped in with 5 points. On Sunday, they lost to Our Lady of Angelus 53-38. Tristan Nevirs led the squad with 12 points and Sean O'Connell scored 11 points On Saturday, November 15, the S.C.V. ninth grade won by the score 48-36 over St Thomas Apostle. This victory was a tough one with Scott getting hurt in the 1st quarter and Ian not playing much because of foul trouble and later fouling out.

Everyone on the team was forced to step up their game and they all did. The team was led by Kareem with 14 points, Jyshawn had 13 points, Nakief chipped 6 points, Julian 5 points, Andrew and Kieran each had 4 points each and Tommy and Mike contributed also.

Everyone on the team scored and played hard as they got their third win.

The team is now 3-1 and has their next game on Saturday, November 29 against Blessed Sacrament at 2:00 p.m.
