I Do Not Use The Rockaway Beach Post Office

Dear Editor,

I am writing in regards to a previous situation that happened and is still happening. A while back you printed articles about the Rockaway Beach Post Office located at Beach 90 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard. At that time you reported that there was mail that was not being delivered. This was inspected, and some mail was found in the dumpsters located behind the post office.

I live in Brooklyn, but spend a lot of time in Queens at my aunt's home. I mailed a batch of letters from the Post Office mailbox (located directly in front of the Post Office) on October 20 and none of this mail was received. There were charge bills and other personal information inside of these envelopes.

A week later, I was visiting my aunt at 8000 Shore Front Parkway, and my cousin who lives there, gave the mailman a few other letters to mail, and again these have not been received by the addressee. The mailman said he would take it, and rather than bring it to the post office where the original batch was mailed, we felt much safer doing this. Well, this was October 25. Again, a problem. I know this post office has been scrutinized about this problem, but it is still happening.

I called the USPS problem line and reported this problem, and they got in touch with my Brooklyn Post Office, who then called me and explained that the reason they called me is that it goes by my zip code where I reside. I explained that the problem was with the Rockaway Beach branch and they said they would call the branch to find out what is going on. As of November 9, my mail still has not been received. I would like to know what's going on. This is a very serious situation. There is personal information that is not to be viewed by the public in these envelopes. This can lead to identity theft. I am not being charged interest on my charge bills and never paid interest before, because I MAIL my bills on time. I do not know who to speak to, but I decided to write to your fine newspaper, The Wave, and air my complaint. I will have to go further with my complaint. Who knows how many other people are affected by this situation. The Postal Service is constantly raising their prices, and the service is worse than ever. My advice to people, who mail letters from the Rockaway Beach Post Office, you can be very doubtful that your mail will be received and possibly your identity stolen.
