Six-Month Moratorium On Bad News
Dear Editor, Your opinion expressed last week, "Give Obstructionism a Rest," was so insightful, so relevant, so lucid that I read it three times. "We have to stop being our worst enemy," you wrote. Might I suggest that The Wave now take the lead in this endeavor? Consider a six month moratorium on giving any front page space to rapes, murders, burglaries or robberies on the peninsula. Simply place them on page two, page three or even on page six. Your circulation won't suffer. You won't lack for news. Homebuyers often think of moving here and then after picking up a copy of The Wave, consider Rockaway crime central. You wrote, "We have been obstructionist against our own interest for too long, and it has to stop."
Amen. We are an extraordinary community with a somewhat undeserved reputation. Right now is the time for The Wave to take the lead. Highlight the good that surrounds us; refuse to pander to baser instincts. That's not just giving obstructionism a rest; that's true leadership.
