I Am Grateful For The Light

Dear Editor,

This letter is in response to the gentleman who wrote regarding the traffic light on Beach 104 Street. I am rejoicing the fact that this light was installed this summer.

I, too, did not appreciate the necessity for this light until my daughter started to attend Scholars' Academy. It is true that during the weekends, and after school, the traffic is light on that corner. But during the school day, especially at arrival and dismissal time, that corner is very busy. Teachers cross Beach Channel Drive, having parked their cars in front of Beach Channel High School. Buses and cars turn onto Beach Channel Drive and this light makes it much safer for all. In addition, I see many Beach Channel students crossing Beach Channel Drive at that corner, on their way home from school.

This light is very important, just as important as the light near PS 114 on Cronston Avenue and Beach 135 Street. As an alumna of JHS 180, I am amazed that there has never been a light there before.

So, thank you to the powers that be, including Principal Brian O'Connell, for having the light installed and helping to keep our children safe.
