St. John's Episcopal Hospital volunteer, Ruth Hamburger, received the President's Service Award for Volunteerism at an award ceremony hosted by the Retired Senior and Volunteer Program (RSVP).

Hamburger, an office aide in the hospital's Admitting Department, received the award for completing more than 4,000 hours of community service.

Her responsibilities as an aide are to provide basic office support and escort patients to their hospital destinations.

Hamburger, a long-time Far Rockaway resident, began to volunteer at St. John's Episcopal Hospital 13 years ago, after retiring from a career working with health maintenance organizations and insurance companies.
