Morris To Lead Group Study Exchange Team

Club President Daniel Mirkin of Rockaway Rotary recently announced that past president Barbara J. Morris has been selected to lead a team of four non-rotarians to Germany during a four-week international vocational exchange during May and June 2009.

Morris is currently seeking individuals to fill the four positions. The trip is free and open to non-rotarians, 25-40 years of age, who live and work in Rotary District 7250 (Brooklyn, Queens and Nassau), are engaged in their trade or profession for two years and must be a US citizen. While visiting Germany, the team will spend 40 hours in their trades or professions.

The Group Study Exchange is a vocational program for young business people to promote international understanding. The program is part cultural and part vocational. The cultural part involves being hosted by different Rotary clubs and staying in Rotary homes in the Rotary District being visited. The vocational part is accomplished by spending 40 hours in a comparable trade or business.

This is the third time the Rockaway Rotary club has provided a team leader. In the past, exchanges have been with Japan, India, Australia, Portugal, Democratic Republic, Republic of the Congo, Philippines, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. The aim is to develop the business leaders of the future. Any nonrotarans interested in participating should contact Dan Mirkin at 718-634- 0005, Barbara Morris at 718-634-2820 or Paula Pluda at 347-926-4038. Families of Rotary members, including grandchildren, are not eligible.
