Gang Violence Escalates Outside MS 53

Police say that there was a spate of gang related violence in and around Middle School 53 on Nameoke Street in Far Rockaway towards the end of October and the beginning of this month. On Thursday, October 30, one teen was cut badly with a box cutter and another was badly beaten with baseball bats in the vicinity of the school. The previous day, police say, there was a large fight at the school that was most likely gang-related and led to the bat beating. Three arrests were made. All of those arrested were younger than fifteen-years-of-age. Police sources are withholding their names because of their ages. The victims of the assault were taken to St. John's Episcopal Hospital, where they were treated and released to their parents.
