Sorrentino Wins Queens Flag Football Championship

By Miriam Rosenberg

After being down 18-8 at the end of the first half, Sorrentino Recreation Center's flag football team held their opponent scoreless and emerged victorious

to win the Department of Parks and Recreation Queens Flag Football Championship on Tuesday. "We shut them out in the second

half and then we scored," said Sorrentino's Stan Brown.

The score was 18-14, with Sorrentino still on the losing end, when the team from Far Rockaway scored to make it a 20-18 game. Despite being unable to convert the extra point, Sorrentino held tough while their opponents from the Vic Hanson Recreational Center drove to within striking distance.

"We stopped them on the ten [yard line], got the ball back and ran out the clock," said Brown. The team will play one more time, against a yet unnamed opponent, on Saturday. "We now go to Redhook for the city championship this Saturday," concluded Brown.
