Anti-Semitism Expert at West End Temple
Michael Whine, an expert on European Anti-Semi-tism will be a guest speaker during Shabbat Services on November 21 at 7:30 pm. He serves as Director of Government and International Affairs at the Community Security Trust, which provides defense services for the Jewish community in the UK. He will discuss, "One Step Forward, Two Steps Back: Diplomatic Initiatives to Combat Anti- Semitism in Europe." The public is invited to Shabbat Services to hear Whine.
Whine is the Director of the Defence and Group Relations Division at the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the community's representative body. He also acts as a consultant to the European Jewish Congress, which he represents at the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). He was recently a member of the working group that drafted the Racist and Religious Crime Prosecution Policy for the Crown Prosecution Service, and of the panel that drafted the Working Definition on Ant-Semitism of the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia.
He is a member of the Metropolitan Police Authority London-wide Race Hate Crime Forum, its Criminal Side Subgroup, and of the Independent Advisors Group of the London Criminal Justice Board. He represents the CST on INACH — the International Network Against Cyberhate.
Whine writes regularly on anti-semitism, extremism and terrorism and contributes the UK chapter for Anti- Semitism Worldwide (Stephen Roth Institute, Tel Aviv University) and Extremism in Europe (European Centre for Research and Action on Racism and Anti-Semitism, Paris).
