PHC Receives Nonprofit Security Grant

Peninsula Hospital Center, affiliate of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, and Peninsula Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation are pleased to announce that they are the recipients of an FY08 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Nonprofit Security Grant Program from the New York State Offices of Homeland Security.

The grant program provides funds for the purpose of integrating nonprofit preparedness activities with broader state and local preparedness efforts. It is also designed to promote coordination and collaboration in emergency preparedness activities among both public and private community representatives, state and local government agencies and Citizen Corps council.

"During these times, hospitals are considered 'safe havens' for the local community in any type of emergency," said Michael Valentino, the organizations' director of security. "This funding will enhance the Hospital Center's and Peninsula Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation's ability to take a very proactive approach to emergency preparedness.

We are certainly very grateful for this opportunity to better serve our community."
