On Sunday, October 26th, sixty-nine St. Francis de Sales runners competed at Alley Pond Park in the CYO Sectional Championships with outstanding results. The Sectional Championships divided the eleven competing parishes into two sections, Black and Yellow. Competing in eight age and gender divisions in the Black section, SFDS won six championships. Running is an individual endeavor but cross-country is a team effort. To determine the score, the places of the top three finishers from each team in a race are added, the team with the lowest total is champion; the next lowest score is second, etc. Also, individual medals were awarded to the top 15 runners in each race. The SFDS runners focused on pacing themselves and pushing themselves to pass as many competitors as they could on their way to the finish line. In addition to team honors, forty-five St. Francis runners won individual medals.

The senior girls team of Emily Gifford (3 rd), Katy Windels (4th), and Alexis O'Connor (5th) placed a close second in their division. With Briana Hart, Mary Ellen Woods and Ciara Flynn finishing 1-2-3 in their .8 mile race, the junior girls team scored a perfect 6 points to win their division. Also running strong and winning individual medals were Cassie Moriarty (6th), Meaghan King (7th), Kelly Casey (11th) and Anna Charles (14th). The bantam girls, running 6 mile, placed fourth in their competitive section behind the strong running of Gabriella Grzegorski (10th), Gwyn McGee (11th), Annie Murphy, Erin Charles, and Catlin Drury.
