Hammels Family Day

Dear Editor,

On September 20, Hammels Houses Development held its annual Family Day, which we would like to change to Children's Day. We are doing this mostly for the children, who are our future. There were so many bad incidents this summer with shootings; we want the kids to remember something good about the summer. It was only right to have a day for them of fun and something positive and cheerful to remember. Kudos to our president of Hammel Houses Resident Council, Inc., Peggy Thomas, who did a great job of organizing the event and keeping peace, with help from her board members and volunteers. The children had a great time. There were pony rides, an inflated castle to jump around in, and a popcorn and cotton candy machine. We also grilled burgers and hotdogs, gave out drinks, watermelon, and candy bags. There was music to dance to by Mr. Maxwell and we would like to thank all of the volunteers, the residents that donated, and the stores that gave donations. We would also like to thank the NYPD officers from the 100th Precinct, who provided security and let the kids have extra fun by ringing their sirens.

We are glad this day was a success and we hope to see you next year. Thanks to all!

CYNTHIA SMALLS-WILLIAMS
