At the Rockaway dog run dogs rule as Stewie, in his skeleton costume, surveys the area. There were bumble bees, a spider, a lobster, a headless horseman and even a football hero as local dogs came dressed to celebrate at the third annual "It's My Bark Halloween Party" last Saturday at the Freeway Dog Park on Beach 83 Street. Arf Arf (Allied Rockaway Foundation for Animal Recreation and Fitness) and the Department of Parks and Recreation sponsored the event, which awarded prizes for best costumes for both small and large dogs.

This little lobster was among some of the original costumes at this year's event. Brutus, as the Headless Horseman, won first place in the big dog competition. Cuerbo, as a prisoner, was the third place winner. Dressed as Superman, Heffner (front), who is blind, didn't win any prize in the costume contests. He did, however, win a lot of hearts. "Want to go play?" Scruffy won second place in the big dog category. An inquisitive little guy, Achilles must be thinking, "Umm, I wonder what this is for?" In the small dog category the winners are, right to left: Spike the Bee (first place), Precious the Ballerina (second place), and Junior the Hot Dog (third place).
