Your Vote Counts

Dear Editor,

Every four years in America, there is an election held for a new president. I

never thought that my vote counted but now I know it does.

If you look at the economy and that an African American, Barack Obama, is running for the presidency you will see that New York State is bankrupt and he will be left to try to correct all the damage that was done in the past eight years with Bush as president. I believe that like any great story, our leaders are all talking about change.

This is how our president and each one launches his or her campaign whether it be Democratic, Republican, or Independent, they all promise change and change for good.

Have you noticed that an African American is in the running for the presidency and New York City (Wall Street) and many other cities in the US are in a crisis of bankruptcy? Where will the monies come from? I mean our financial sector and we have lost tens of thousands of jobs thus far and many more are expected. I am hoping that whoever becomes our new president, hewill open and create new jobs, places for the homeless with good conditions, offer trades and affordable housing for the not-sowealthy. It is also very important that our medical insurance issues are resolved.

In the meantime, I hope the crime rate doesn't increase. Let's keep the peace and rock the vote.

MARY IVEY
