101 Precinct APOs To Hold Disaster Drill

By Miriam Rosenberg

disaster mobilization drills with its auxiliary officers tonight, Friday, October 17, The Wave learned on Wednesday.

During the monthly Precinct Community Council meeting, Officer George Torres, the precinct community affairs officer, told residents about the drills.

"We're going to have an auxiliary police mobilization this Friday in front

the precinct," said Torres. "We're going to simulate an event of a disaster.

It's a mobilization to get [the auxiliary officers] together that day and do a couple of drills." Torres, who said they want to get more auxiliary officers into the ranks, suggested that anyone interested in learning how to become an APO should come to the precinct on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

"That's [becoming an auxiliary officer] another avenue for the community to get involved in their community," said Torres.

According to Torres, who is one of two community affairs officers assigned to the precinct, it was a quick decision by the "higher ups" to do the drills and they asked that the community be made aware of it at the meeting.

The 101 Precinct is located at 16-12 Mott Avenue in Far Rockaway.
