Become A SJEH Health Literacy Volunteer

St. John's Episcopal Hospital is recruiting adult volunteers for a new Health Literacy initiative called "HealthSense, the sensible way to manage your health." Healthsense will enable patients to make informed healthcare decisions and take appropriate steps to take control of and improve their health and to increase understanding of healthrelated issues. The educational work will be conducted among Family Practice outpatients.

The program is supported by a grant from the United Hospital Fund. Albert Strojan, DO, chairman of Family Practice is the medical liaison and Josephine Perez is the coordinator. Mature adults, both English and Spanish speaking, who are able to commit 10 to 12 hours per week, are encouraged to apply. To qualify volunteers must complete an annual physical and participate in a short training program. For more information call Renae Carr, Director of Volunteer Services at 718-869-7870, Monday through Friday.
