PHC Honors Family Health Center Doctors
Peninsula Hospital Center, affiliate of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, has announced that members of the Family Health Center medical staff have been chosen to receive this year's Outstanding Physician Commitment Awards at its 101st Anniversary Ball, which will be held on Saturday, October 25, at the El Caribe Country Club Caterers in Brooklyn.
These physicians not only staff the Hospital Center's Family Health Center, they are totally responsible for mentoring the hospital's award winning Family Practice Program and teaching all of the medical students and residents who rotate throughout the hospital during their medical training. Receiving these distinguished honors this year are Dr. Peter A. Guiney, Dr. Sadhana Gupta and Dr. Aaron Nessoff.
Dr. Peter A. Guiney is the Director of both the Department of Medical Education and the Family Practice Residency Program. As the Director, Department of Medical Education, Dr. Guiney is responsible for the supervision of all resident and student education at the Hospital Center. He has been an active member of the Hospital Center's Medical and Dental Staff since 1991 and has served as the Director of the Family Practice Residency Program for the past 10 years.
Dr. Guiney first arrived at Peninsula Hospital Center more than 20 years ago, in 1986, as a medical student and successfully completed his internship and residency in Family Practice. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Guiney worked as an Attending Physician in the hospital center's Emergency Department for several years.
Dr. Sadhana Gupta has been the director of the Peninsula Hospital's Family Health Center for the past three years. She received her medical degree at SMS Medical College in Jaipur, India. She completed her Family Practice Internship and Residency programs at Lutheran Medical Center, SUNY in Brooklyn where she became the Chief Resident in Family Practice in 1999.
From 1999 to 2001 Dr. Gupta was an Assisting Attending at the Shore Road Family Health Center, Department of Family Practice of Lutheran Medical Center.
Dr. Gupta initially joined the Medical and Dental Staff of Peninsula Hospital Center in 2001 when she was appointed as the Associate Director of the Family Health Center. She was named Director of the Hospital Center's Family Health Center in 2005 and is actively involved in the teaching and supervision of the Family Practice Residency Program.
Board certified in Family Practice Medicine, Dr. Gupta is a member of the American Association of Family Practice and holds academic honors in biochemistry, preventive and social medicine, physiology, anatomy, pathology, microbiology and forensic medicine. She has also completed significant research in the field family medicine.
Dr. Gupta is married to Sandeep Gupta, M.D., a rheumatologist with a private practice in Long Beach, where the couple live with their two young children, daughter Aditi, 14 and son Arjun, age 6.
Dr. Aaron Nesoff is the Associate Director of the Peninsula Hospital Family Health Center and also serves as an Assistant Clinical Instructor in the Family Practice Residency Program.
He has been a member of the professional medical staff of the Hospital Center for the past 28 years. Dr. Nesoff is a quintessential New Yorker, born in the Bronx, raised in Arverne and now lives in Brooklyn. He is truly a Rockaway hometown boy, having graduated from Far Rockaway High School and Queens College.
Dr. Nesoff served in the United States Army from April 1966 to April 1969, holding the ranks of E-5 and SP/5. He graduated from La Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Facultad de Medicina. He married his wife, Susan Waldow, in 1974. Although motorcycling and SCUBA diving are his passions, he also enjoys attending the ballet, cooking and teaching.
In addition to his hectic daily schedule of teaching and tending to the patient population of the Family Heath Center, Dr. Nesoff serves as the Medical Director of the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department, the Roxbury Rescue Squad and the Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
