Four Injured In Freeway Accident

Four people were injured, at least two of them seriously, when two cars collided and then crashed into the concrete buttresses lining the Rockaway Freeway on Tuesday afternoon. Eyewitnesses told The Wave that an SUV was crossing the Freeway at Beach 59 street southbound at about noon on October 7 when it was struck by a Toyota Camry containing the driver and two passengers going westbound under the elevated structure. Four people - the three in the Camry and the driver of the SUV - all still unidentified by police sources, had to be cut out of their cars by firefighters responding to the scene. Three of the injured were transported to Jamaica Hospital while the driver of the SUV was reportedly transported to the Peninsula Hospital Center for treatment. Both hospitals declined to identify those injured or the extent of their injuries.
