Bungalows Film Event Highlighted On PBS Website
"The Bungalows of Rockaway," a film tracing the history of the Rockaway peninsula's bungalow communities over the last 100 years, is now part of a lecture series available for viewing on PBS's Channel Thirteen website. On September 9, the Historic Districts Council sponsored the evening event, "Film Screening and Discussion: The Bungalows of Rockaway," at the Anthology Film Archives on Second Avenue in Manhattan.
"They ran excerpts from our bungalow doc, which were followed by a Q & A and panel disc said co-producer Jennifer Callahan, in an email to The Wave. "Eve Kahn moderated the panel. My co-producer Elizabeth Logan Harris, Richard George [of the Beachside Bungalow Preservation Organization], preservationist Caroline Pasion and I were on the panel."
Callahan said that among the 165 people in the audience, there many past and present Rockaway residents. Channel Thirteen taped the evening and has made it available to viewers on its website.
"[There's] a new collection of our excerpts, which include aerial footage and some of our interview with Amanda Burden [the director of the New York City Department of City Planning], who loves the Rockaways and the bungalows. The excerpts are followed by the panel discussion and Q & A."
