The Party Was 'Just Beautiful'
News Events/Travel Editor/Host • WNYX - TV Morning News • 12:00 noon on UHF Chs. 35 & 26 Monday - Friday

The title above refers to the open house party at 104-06 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, on Sunday September 21 for Shear Explosion Beauty Salon, owned by Richard Blank on Beach 129 Street, Belle Harbor, merging with Studio "J," owned by Janet Shirin, under the new name, "JUST BEAUTIFUL." Crowds gathered at 104-06 Rockaway Beach Boulevard and danced their feet off to the DJ music, filled their tummies on plenty of homemade delicious entrées and goodies prepared by Richie Blank and his darling, shy, little wife, Pat, and catered wrap sandwiches, coffee. and bagels which are provided when you visit the shop every Saturday. It was certainly a fun fusion affair and you missed out if you weren't there. My cameraman, David Fasano, was on hand to shoot the former and future customers and capture all who attended, enjoying the festivities. A great time and we wish them well in their new endeavors. Richie gave me a new hairdo with which I am most pleased.

If you have read my column before, you know Janet has done my nails for years and now, since my illness, I have nails again to display. She and her salon not only do a super job on nails, but Janet is fantastic at makeup. Don't go to any of your special occasions (weddings, etc.) before you visit "Just Beautiful." She will transform you into a glamorous, look alike movie star. And Richie is great at hair styling. I cannot praise him enough for the wonderful job he did on the cut and styling of my hair. Everyone who saw it had only accolades for it. Marion, my manicurist, told me, they give special discounts on your birthday. Try them out. And you don't have to worry about your transportation to and from home or wherever you are in the Rockaways.

They provide FREE transportation. Boris is always on hand to pick you up and take you home. It's FREE. FREE, FREE! Do enjoy being "Just Beautiful!" They look forward to seeing you there and while you are there tell Janet and Ritchie whatever news you have that you want to put in my column. They will see that I get it.

I saw Pat Williams there and she told me her husband, Pugie Williams, is recovering nicely from his two knee operations and he will be back on the tennis courts soon. Around Breezy I ran into Teresa Ludwig who reported that her companion with whom she was living with and caring for, Joan McCardle, member of the Breezy Point Surf Club for years, is now in Assisted Living, Arbor West, and 1515 Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Islandia, New York 11747. I remember Joan and wish her well. Teresa Ludwig will be flying off to Ireland, shortly to visit her Aunt in County Tryon in Northern Ireland. Safe trip, Teresa.

Walked into Kennedy's by the Bay this weekend and caught a glimpse of the Richard and Allison Fitzpatrick wedding reception. The wedding took place earlier at St. Thomas More Church. Maid of Honor was the sister of bride, Allison Terjeson, her two sons Mark and Robert. Best Man was Peter Fritzpatrick, brother of the groom, Richard and Alison will reside in a home in Breezy Point. Congratulations and Good Luck! Later that day I spoke to Peggy Wheeler who told me her grandson, Jacke Hamrick, was inducted into the National Honorary Society. I met Rosalie Malloy and Marilyn Higgins and friend, Jack Tully, who told me my namesake, Dottie Dunn is doing fine. Hi there, Dottie. Steven and Amorela Edwards from the Roxbury Barn say, "Hi." I wish to hear from each and every one of you and get your latest news. Don't forget The Colony Theatre, Friday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. LIVE music by Reda Shay band featuring Kerry Kearney and the Gray Riders will be there. Should be a great time! Be there!

Toured the Javit's Center for the latest in the Children's Show and the outfits are adorable with pretty feminine flounced skirts and colors galore, school attire and practical bags. Met Phil Padue at Metro TV Studio where I tape the New Yorker TV Show and he is a Tatoo Artist who has written a Coloring Book for Children called "Mommy Has Tattoos." Children can color real tattoos.
