The Beach Channel football coaching staff and players sat down during the middle of last week and watched the game film of their 21-12 loss on Homecoming Day to Flushing. Watching their mistakes disappointed and angered the Dolphins, who were undefeated at 3-0 before losing to rival Flushing. More ... Co-captain Sarah Donahue (Belle Harbor) led the Bishop Kearney Cross- Country team at the Mayor's Cup Invitational held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx this past weekend. Donahue continued to set another personal record by running the 2 ½ mile hilly course in a time of 17 minutes 9 seconds with a sixth place finish out of 295 competitors. More ... Iris De La Cruz was suited up and ready for the first day of soccer practice on the grass field of Stella Maris High School in late August., when she noticed former teammate Michelle Raaf, who had graduated two years ago. But the 19-year old Pace University student, wasn't going to be practicing with them. More ... The 2008 BCAC Pee Wee Shamrocks won their first game of the season defeating the Glen Cove Cardinals 20 - 14 at Glen Cove Stadium. The Shamrocks won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball. The Offense was led by the offensive line of Johnny Walsh, Phoenix Parker, Johnny Weiss, Vincent Cavanagh, and Brendan Trudden. More ... In their toughest game yet, the Green Shamrocks slugged it out with the White Shamrocks at Broad Channel Memorial Field last Saturday. This was a preview of the November 8 Shamrock Bowl, and it was not a disappointment. On the very first series, the White Shamrocks were able to get through the Green Shamrocks' "Green Machine" defense to take an early 6-0 lead. More ... After taking two losses on rainy days with no offense, Rockaway moved the ball very well against a solid backline. More ... The third and final registration for the St. Camillus/St. Virgilius basketball programs will take place in the St. Camillus rectory basement on Tuesday, October 21 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Children from the third grade to the eighth grade are eligible to play (Mini program K-2 is full). More ... The BCAC Midget Shamrocks lost a close battle against Farmingdale, 44- 38, last weekend. The Shamrocks started out a little slow as Farmingdale jumped out to a 19-0 lead in the 1st quarter. More ... The sun returned to the pitch last weekend and was shining on St. Francis' soccer teams, especially the third-grade girls. In fact, deuces were wild for the Third Grade Girls. They had another doubleheader weekend and came away with two victories. On Saturday, Katie Marquardt and Meagan Duffy scored two goals each on a 4-0 win over Our Lady of the Snows. More ... Finally, some sparks of life up front along the beaches of Rockaway and further down the beach from Debbs up toward Point Lookout and Jones Inlet. Bunker and lot of them are schooling up occasionally fish ripping through them if you get on the right pod. The action should improve as we come closer to this next moon. More ...
