Put An End To Free Rides

Dear Editor,

The New York Post reported that we taxpayers shelled out a record $5.69 for every "free" ride on the Staten Island Ferry last year, as soaring fuel costs drove up the annual operating tab to $112 million. Rockaway residents pay $10 round-trip on its newly operational ferry, even with subsidized monies. Why a free ride for some? Aren't all citizens equal? With New York's financial woes, isn't it time the free ride ends?
