'Suspicious' Fire Strikes Rugby Club

FDNY personnel responded to a fire at 113-06 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, the former headquarters for the Rockaway Fisheads rugby club. The fire, which burned out the entire building, occurred at 2:49 a.m. on Sunday, September 28. It is still under investigation and the cause is unknown. An FDNY spokesperson claims, however, that there was no fire at the site. He said it was simply an "order of smoke" that firefighters responded to. The pictures say otherwise. Police sources say that the fire has been deemed "suspicious," and fire marshals are investigating. Fire photo by Jim Slowey.
