Local Wounded In Edgemere Shooting

An Edgemere man was shot while he was walking on Seagirt Boulevard near Beach 28 Street on Monday afternoon, police sources say.

Officers from the 101 Precinct responding to numerous calls of "shots fired" at Beach 28 Street canvassed the area and found a wounded man, later identified as Dyshawn Flake, 17, at Beach 32 Street and Seagirt Boulevard.

Flake was suffering from a gunshot wound to his left arm, and could not explain to police why he was walking away from the hospital, police sources report.

Flake told detectives from the 101 Precinct Squad that he and an unidentified friend were walking on Seagirt Boulevard at about 4:50 p.m. on September 29 when a man winged six shots at him, hitting him once.

The shooter then fled the scene on Seagirt Boulevard.

According to police, Flake was unable to identify the shooter or to say why he may have been the intended target.

He was transported to Jamaica Hospital Center by EMS ambulance, where he was treated and released.
