'American Princess' Blows Engine, Out Of Service To Be Replaced By Yellow Water Taxi
The "American Princess," the boat that has been used since May to bring commuters from Rockaway to Manhattan's Pier 11, suffered a blown engine on Wednesday and had to be towed to dry dock, officials say.
Commuters arriving at Riis Landing for the second run of the morning at 7:45 on Wednesday were turned back and told to find another way to get to work and school.
Officials of New York Water Taxi, the company that runs the service, however, told The Wave on Wednesday morning that the service would be reinstated on Wednesday afternoon, using one of the many familiar yellow water taxis in its fleet.
"The engine blew, and we will bring in another boat to do its runs until it is repaired," said Stacy Sherman, a spokesperson for the company.
Sherman would not conjecture on how long it would take to fix the Princess and put her back in service, but did say that there would be no break in commuter service no matter how long it took.
