Historical Views of the Rockaways

F. Hadeler's Haberdashery Establishment, Hammels - 1907
From The Rockaway Museum Commentary by Emil Lucev, Curator Dedicated To The Memory Of Leon S. Locke

In an old Wave article published in July of 1907, Mr. W.F. Hadeler did state that the well dressed male of the species was known as a "beau brummel" or "macaroni" of a "dandy," and finally that detestable American word known as "dude." "Look prosperous" was Hadeler's motto, and a sign in the store stated so. Also stated was that a man must always look his best for self esteem, and to gain the esteem of businessmen.

Hadeler's store was located on Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 88 Street, where the present Dayton Shopping area parking lot is located, and remained there for many years. Goods were always of top quality!
