When Michael Bloomberg ran for Mayor nearly eight years ago, his campaign was largely built on his success as a business leader and millionaire. There was a feeling that using a business model on our public institutions would be a good thing.

Historical Views of the Rockaways
F. Hadeler's Haberdashery Establishment, Hammels - 1907
In an old Wave article published in July of 1907, Mr. W.F. Hadeler did state that the well dressed male of the species was known as a "beau brummel" or "macaroni" of a "dandy," and finally that detestable American word known as "dude." "Look prosperous" was Hadeler's motto, and a sign in the store stated so.

The Inner Voice
Never give up. Sometimes we may be discouraged or unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and just give up. Life shows us that it is never over till it is over. I am not talking of making things or relationships work after they have already died.

It's My Turn
I have self-debated, for a long time about whether or not I should write this. I thought about Oprah's courage in bringing the matter to public discussion by sharing her own personal experiences. 'The Women' - Sexless, The City and Suburbia
Though Hollywood refuses to believe it, lightning doesn't strike in the same place twice, much less three times. The box office success of the movie version of the hit TV series, "Sex and the City," can't be reproduced by taking four established actresses and expecting the same chemistry as that between Sarah Jessica Parker and company.

Hooked on RTC
This is my second year taping the shows at the Rockaway Theatre Company. And I'm totally hooked. I go around singing (not a pretty sight) songs from "Annie" and "Oliver." I break out in Paul Simon's "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover." And get funny looks from my wife.

L'Shana Tova, a happy, healthy and sweet New Year to all my friends of the Jewish faith. The past week has been very strange. The electric power to my office was suddenly turned off. Linda Plummer, the Remax real estate broker in the next office, was being evicted for nonpayment of rent. She was responsible for paying the electric bill for our floor and did not pay LIPA.

Rockaway Outdoors/Tales From The Wheel house
The winds of autumn are upon us, at least for these past few days. Annoying yes, but it goes with this time of year. Hopefully a few easterly blows will stir things up a bit and get the fish moving. Like the barometer, the fishing this past week had its highs and lows. Unfortunately the fishing I enjoyed was on the low end.
