Rockaway Park's Department Store Schemer

By Nicholas Briano

A Rockaway Park native was arrested and charged last week with allegedly taking part in a series of illegitimate store refunds at an Oceanside department store.

Hanna Rattner, 63, of Beach 127 Street has been charged with repeatedly defrauding a T.J. Maxx store in Oceanside, at which she bought store merchandise, removed the store tags and then reattached the same tags to non-store merchandise. Rattner would then return the item to the store in exchange for a refund, according to Nassau County police.

Rattner has been charged with grand larceny, falsifying business records and fraud. She was arraigned last Saturday at First District Court, Hempstead, and released on her own recognizance.

Police suspect Rattner carried out her scheme numerous times at the 3221 Long Beach Road store from June 5 through July 29. She allegedly received $1,354 in refunds in the form of cash, store credit, or credit card refunds, Nassau Police officials said.
