White Shamrock Peanuts and Bayville End In A Tie
The Shamrocks from Rockaway tied the Falcons of Bayville, 6-6, last Saturday at the Broad Channel Field.
The 5 and 6-year old's record now stands at 0-1-2.
Coach Marty McManus noted that the team has outplayed two out of their three opponents so far, yet have only come away with two ties.
"I am very proud of our team. We are a smaller team than most of the league, but if we keep playing like this, no one will be able to beat us", the coach said as he came off the field early Saturday evening.
On their home field, the Shamrocks took the opening drive down to the 20- yard line, mowing down the defense with blocking from Marky Mark Mehta and the rest of the offensive line: Andrew Visconti, Matt Celentano, Gerard DeJesus, Jack Tansey, and Patrick Murphy.
The drive stalled as a penalty and a fumble took them back and the Shamrocks were unable to get another first down on the drive. After a quick stop on defense, Ian Byrne "hi-stepped" his way to a 58 yard touchdown; breaking two tackles along the way down the sidelines into the end-zone. Christian Agoglia, Jack Collins, and Mike Butkiewicz followed Byrne the whole way for the score, blocking any one coming their way.
The Shamrocks defense played great, allowing only 3 plays for positive yardage the whole game. The Falcons lone touchdown came after a broken tackle in the backfield, and a key block left the field wide open for the score on 4th down and long. The Shamrocks from Rockaway constantly broke down the offense line of Bayville, getting into the backfield to stop almost every play.
The dominant playing from the defensive line of James Agoglia, Dominick Maiorano, Mike McManus, Matt Schmitt, Jack Ward, and the middle linebackers, Dillon Ostrander and James Tuohey, kept the Shamrocks in the game from start to finish, and never let up.
The bleachers were packed for the game. Thank you for coming out to support the team. There will be no game this weekend. Check with coach Danny Collins for the next scheduled game.
