Our First Block Party
The first block party ever held on Beach 98 Street was held on Sunday, September 6, 2008. It was a great success! We had a waterslide, jumping tent, basketball shooting, and ring the bell with the hammer for children and adults. There were dance contests, games, and karaoke contests. Everybody enjoyed the games and had fun.
On behalf of the Rockaway Park Estate Neighborhood Association I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to John Miller, Builder of Rockaway Park Estates for your generous donation. Thank you so much, your generous support made our block party a successful one. We would like also to thank Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer and councilman Joseph Addabbo for your donations, for Lew Simon who volunteered to judge in some of the contest.
Special thanks to Eddie Pastore, chairperson for block party and Henry Jefferson, chairperson for special events who put in so many hours of their time to organize this first block party. Also, special thanks to Reverend Richard Ahlemeyer, Pastor of St. Camillus Church who helped us with our parking problems and letting us use the church parking lot.
Last but not least, my sincere thanks to all the residents and volunteers who worked on different committees to help make this event a successful one. We are looking forward for another successful block party next year. Thank you all.
