Edgemere Suffers Weekend Verizon Outage
Nearly 400 Verizon telephone customers in Edgemere lost service this past weekend, when a crane truck crashed into a telephone pole last Saturday night, according to a Verizon company spokesperson.
Most customers' service was restored by Monday morning as Verizon crews worked around the clock to repair the damaged pole.
The truck caused lines and a junction box that connects the lines to be knocked out at the intersection of Beach Channel Drive and Beach 43 Street.
The outage affected area residents between Beach 41 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard, and Almeda Avenue and Beach 44 Street, according to Verizon spokesperson, John Bonomo.
"This was a result of a truck with a crane that pulled down our cables," Bonomo said. "By 7a.m. this morning [Monday] we had all but 14 customers restored."
