PHC Cancer Registrar Praised By State
Robert V. Levine, President and Chief Executive Officer of Peninsula Hospital Center, affiliate of North Shore-LIJ Health System, recently announced that the Hospital Center's Cancer Registrar, Channel Grant, CTR, has been honored by the State of New York Department of Health. For the second consecutive year Ms. Grant and the Health Information Management Systems Department has been singled out and praised by New York State Cancer Registry and will be issued the organization's second annual "Recognition Certificate for Completeness and Timeliness of Cancer Reporting," based on 2007 cases.
Maria J. Schymura, Ph.D., Director of the Cancer Registry, expressed admiration for Ms. Grant and her staff for persistence in reporting all of the Hospital Center's cancer cases in a consistent, timely manner. "The work you do is important and very much appreciated," said Dr. Schymura. "Without an organization's complete, accurate and timely reporting, cancer researchers, planning agencies and public health professionals are not able to accurately assess the burden of cancer on the people of New York," said Dr. Schymura.
"Congratulations to you and to all staff who helped you to achieve this honor. We hope that you continue your reporting as you have done in the past - and that you continue to receive future awards."
