Week 2 of the CYO soccer season was very busy and it produced wins and bunches of goals. Five teams posted two victories each last weekend. The Eight Grade Girls played St. Andrew's and won 4-1. Kelly Casey (goal and assist), Erin Blum (2 goals), Jenna Hoffman (assist) and Kristen Henschel (goal) paced the offense. More ... Beach Channel continues their undefeated start to the PSAL football season as QB Benjamin Burrello completed two touchdown passes to defeat Thomas Jefferson Campus, 29-22 last Saturday afternoon. Beach Channel WR Devon Moore caught a 35-yard touchdown pass and RB Turran Rhodes rushed for 105 yards and had a receiving touchdown. More ... Congratulations to the Bishop Kearney's Cross Country team who shined at the 30th annual Xavier High School X-C Invitational meet located in the historic Van Cortlandt Park Bronx, New York. More ... Registration for the St. Camillus/St. Virgilius Basketball programs will take place in the St. Camillus rectory basement on Sunday, October 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, October 7 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. More ... The Shamrocks had a bye this past weekend but this is a good time to get to know who the Green Shamrocks are. The team is made up of seven returning veterans and thirteen rookies. The team has come a long way since the first week of August. More ... After opening up with a loss to Plainedge 20-0 and a defeat to the loss to Bethpage, 40-19, the BCAC Midget Shamrocks recorded their first victory of the year in beating Glen, 7-0. The Shamrocks offensive line of Zack Warner, Ray Lamantia, Nick Lupola, James Lee, Kyle Hilgendorf, opened up holes for the running backs. More ... Tenth grader, Xander McDonald Smith, drives Rockaway's Scholars' Academy to the top of the city's PSAL Golf rankings. Golf has taken this honor student at the accelerated early college preparatory school across the city, during this past year. More ... The Rockaway Fisheads have a new look this season. The youth program has finally paid off some dividends. Several years ago, the rugby club invited some high school student athletes to play along side the men's rugby club in hopes of seeing them in the future - once they graduated college. More ... The Shamrocks from Rockaway tied the Falcons of Bayville, 6-6, last Saturday at the Broad Channel Field. The 5 and 6-year old's record now stands at 0-1-2. Coach Marty McManus noted that the team has outplayed two out of their three opponents so far, yet have only come away with two ties. More ... |
